Thriller evaluation question 7.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it?

Thriller evaluation question 6.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

When it comes to technologies I have learnt how to use many.
To construct my evaluation and research I used websites like: Prezi, Survey monkey, Spicynodes, popplet, padlet, a voice note and I even recorded an answer to one of my evaluation questions.

Survey Monkey.

Popplet -

Prezi -

Final cut express.

Camera.
 Tripod.

I used these technologies because I thought that they were a good way to show what I have learnt. Most of them were also better at proving my point than maybe power point or word would have.

There is also the filming part of the project. I learnt how to use things like a tripod effectively and to be able to film something clearly and professionally.

With Final cut express being where I edited most of my videos it was a complicated application to use as I have never used it before, however it got easier as I used it often.
Likewise like final cut express I had never blogged before until I started this project and it got easier and quicker. With survey monkey it was easy and straightforward and helped me with my research for my target audience.

From using these site I have developed knowledge about each one and learnt how to just play around with sites until I understood them. And I have gained good production skills, good planning skills and experience with filming.

Media definitions.

Suspense - This is when there are certain questions asked about the movie because they are left unanswered or leave the audience wanting to know more, these can come in the form of cliffhangers. It is the anxiety about the outcome of certain actions It may operate whenever there is a perceived suspended drama or a chain of cause is left in doubt, with tension being an emotion felt as part of the situation. In the kind of suspense described by film director Alfred Hitchcock, an audience experiences suspense when they expect something bad to happen and have (or believe they have) a superior perspective on events in the drama's hierarchy of knowledge, yet they are powerless to intervene to prevent it from happening. Films having a lot of suspense belong in the thriller genre.

MaguffinA MacGuffin or Maguffin is a plot device which drives the film.
For most films the Maguffin is not explained in depth. For some films it is simply just money, but it is what drives the characters to do what they do in the film.
Examples of a Maguffin:

  • the 'Micro-Film' in North-By-NorthWest - which the antagonists are trying to smuggle out of the country, and the CIA are trying to retrieve.
  • The money in No Country For Old Men - which leads to many shootouts and deaths through-out the film.

Continuity editingContinuity editing is the predominant style of editing in narrative cinema and television. The purpose of continuity editing is to smooth over the inherent discontinuity of the editing process and to establish a logical coherence between shots.
An example:

Enigmas - This refers to a puzzle, something mysterious or inexplicable, or a riddle or difficult problem.
In thrillers this is commonly something which the protagonist has to try to find out or solve before the narrative is resolved and the film finishes.

Red herrings - A red herring is the name given to a device which intends to divert he audience from the truth or an item of significance. It can work with other devices like the enigma to create suspense.

Cliffhangers - Sometimes although not always, used. Often feature a main character in a precarious or difficult dilemma, or confronted with a shocking revelation. This can entice the audience to keep watching in order to see how the situation resolves itself.
